The MAF Mural: Answers to Your Questions

The MAF is launching a call for projects to dress its façade at Rue de la Louve 3 in Lausanne with a mural created by an artist. As the submission deadline of 15 November 2026 approaches, we look back at the questions we have been asked most often.

The first point often raised: do artists need to work around the three shuttered windows on the façade? The answer is no. They will be entirely covered by the 600 cm banner on which the artwork will be printed. Artists remain free to take them into account in their composition, though, if they feel it adds something.

Then there is the question of payment. The competition does not provide any financial fee for the selected artist. In return, the MAF offers unique visibility in the heart of Lausanne, on a busy street, as well as the banner, its installation, and an opening to inaugurate the artwork.

Another frequent question: is the competition reserved for Lausanne-based artists? Quite the opposite. The MAF actively encourages Swiss and international artists to submit their projects; the competition is open to all interested women artists, with no geographical restriction.

On the technical side, selected artists will need to supply their digital file at 72 dpi in final format, for printing on a 600 x 200 cm banner.

Finally, what about rights to the artwork? They remain entirely with the artist. The MAF simply offers a space of visibility to bring her work to the public, and never claims ownership of the original artwork after its reproduction on the banner.

Projects should be sent to info@le-maf.ch before 15 November 2026. The selected artwork will be unveiled from January 2027.
