Christina Willimann explores reflections as a field of exploration and space for experimentation. Through black lacquer that both absorbs and reflects, she questions our perception, our identity, and the relationship between individual and society. An invitation to disruption and shift in perspective.
"Reflections fascinate me—by their diversity, their disruptive power, their silent presence. So I began to collect reflections systematically, to divert them and disturb them. Black lacquer plays a central role here—it becomes for me the material expression of this approach. In it, absorption and reflection, presence and absence are concentrated. Reflections touch on fundamental questions of perception, identity, and the relationship between individual and society. In my work, I address the following themes in particular:
What is self-reflection—on an individual and collective level?
What images does our brain produce, which ones do we project?
Reflection becomes for me a field of exploration, a space for experimentation, an invitation to disruption and shift in perspective—open for observers, open to new meanings."
