RadiXx is an incisive anthology of nine works that dive to the roots of Fanny Stehlin's creative journey, centred around a concept she has forged over the years : féminalité. Lineage and transmission, bodies and pigments, epigrams and gazes : each piece is at once a portrait and a poem, an image and an inner resonance.
At the Roots of Art
Originally from a corner of the country nestled between two mountains, Fanny Stehlin grew up surrounded by her father's creations and the legends of dark pine forests. Her first sketches brought forth controlled monsters, precise and chiselled in pen : dragons meant to shield her from an adolescence bearing down on her. Art as refuge, but also as wild release.
Her creative journey has been nourished by her intertwined origins : a lineage of Italian women, inspiring and resilient, who passed on to her a taste for tenacity and freedom. On the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, she learned academic art and her first figures in watercolour, oil and clay. Along the banks of Lake Biel, she discovered the structure and rigour of graphic arts. It is finally on the shores of Lake Geneva that her concept of féminalité was born and flourished.
Femininity, Animality, Féminalité
A nape, a shadow, a breath, the sketched curve of a breast. In Fanny Stehlin's work, the need to create always arises from a fleeting but intense emotion : an instinctive, demiurgic call. Her gesture seeks to free all facets of womanhood from mercantile and subjugating gazes, reclaiming them fully.
Excess as a way to question desire and defy expectations. The mischief lies in the lure of beauty, functioning as bait. A way of asserting how an idealised, unclothed body can become the emblem of woman as subject.
Bathed in warm ochres, fused reds or metallic blues, her works invite viewers on a journey into a protean universe, populated by figures who reclaim their femininity and animality. Acrylic dances with silver gelatin, calligraphy takes on the hues of poetry. Words chiselled with forgotten sonorities accompany gazes and movements.
Through the Woman-root, the Woman-leaf, the Woman-mist and the Woman-storm, an intimate and universal cartography unfolds : one of a féminalité traversed by memory, resistance and transmission.
Alongside the Exhibition
A round table and workshops will be held in collaboration with the Rencontre Internationale Francophone de l'Itinérance au Féminin Inclusive. Professionally involved in the world of social reintegration, Fanny Stehlin will welcome participants as well as collectives working in this field.
